It was also the final fixture of New Zealand’s summer schedule. A summer schedule that seen the Kiwis win seven series out of seven.
In a combination of Test matches, T20s, and ODIs, New Zealand played a total of 21 matches in their home summer.
The Kiwi’s won an astonishing 17 of those matches, losing 3, and with one No Result. The matches were against Australia, West Indies, Bangladesh, and Pakistan.
Only Australia in the five match T20 series ran the Kiwis close. That series eventually finished 3-2 to the hosts.
The run of 4 Test match wins (from 4 matches) across the season has also seen Kane Williamson’s side qualify for the final of the World Test Championship. The final is at Southampton, England, in June 2021.
Kane Williamson rises to top of Test Rankings
During this exceptional run of form, New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson has also rose to the top of the ICC Test match rankings.
Williamson was in great form across the Christmas period. He scored one double hundred and a century in 3 innings against Pakistan. And in one innings he played against West Indies, he scored 251.
All in all it has been an exceptional run by the Kiwis. The icing on the cake for a remarkable year, would be to secure victory over India at Southampton in June.
